Introducing Research Computing Oxford

Oxford’s researchers continually push the boundaries of knowledge, but tackling today’s most complex challenges often demands computing power beyond a personal computer. Research Computing Oxford (RCO) is a new service providing a single point of information and advice for the various advanced computing resources available to researchers at Oxford.

Helping researchers achieve goals

Whether your work involves high-performance computing (HPC), computational processing of sensitive data, or cutting-edge machine learning, RCO offers guidance on accessing the right resources for your needs.

We help you to navigate a landscape that includes departmental systems, University-wide platforms like ARC and BMRC, and national services such as ARCHER2. RCO’s goal is to help you find the tools and training that will empower your research.

Research Computing Concierge service

We aim to make access to advanced computing as seamless as using a library or lab. To support this, we have set up the Research Computing Concierge service.

Whether you're exploring options for the first time or looking to optimise existing workflows, the Research Computing Concierge service is here to support you. This dedicated service offers personalised advice to guide you toward the most appropriate tools and platforms. You can contact the Concierge service by email to request support or arrange a meeting.

We would also like to hear from anyone who supports research computing across the University, to better understand your role and how we might support you in the future.

Coming soon

Over the next term, we will be sharing additional information about available resources and training opportunities, as well as creating community spaces designed specifically for researchers to engage with each other around research computing at Oxford. These spaces will provide opportunities to share expertise, discuss challenges, foster collaborations, and strengthen the research computing community. Stay tuned for further announcements on how you can get involved.
