Helping you every day

The past couple of months have been interesting to say the least, with record numbers of queries coming our way about a wide variety of subjects. Our IT Service Desk colleagues have been working hard to respond to your questions and support is available by phone 24/7, just call (01865) 612345. We are also working in collaboration with colleagues across the University to ensure that help is available when you need it.

For teaching

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), with help from IT Services, has established two temporary support services to help with queries specifically related to teaching remotely and open-book exams support.

Information about the Teaching Remotely service desk is available on the CTL website, which also contains useful links. The Teaching Remotely service desk can be contacted by emailing remote@ctl.ox.ac.uk.

Support for open-book exams can be accessed by completing a dedicated Help form (you can call (01865) 612345 for help with this), or emailing weblearn@it.ox.ac.uk

For everyone

In the first instance you should contact your local IT colleagues (particularly in colleges and departments).  You can also check our IT Help website where you will find self-service forms for queries and quick help guides for the most popular systems and software.

Here are answers to a few of the most popular queries we have received lately:

  • What is Teams and how do I request my own Team? Teams is the University's approved and secure collaboration software. You can use many of the features in the software, such as messaging, video calling and much more, without a formal Team in place. If you decide you need a Team please follow the advice on our What is Teams? page.
  • How do I run meetings or chat using Teams? Take a look at the popular 'How do I' page about how to use the most common features offered by Teams. There are also useful links at the bottom of the page.
  • Is there just one page telling me how to access popular systems? The page that has the most links, and lots of other useful advice too, is the Work remotely page on our main website - a good one to bookmark. Collaborate is another good page to check out.
  • I've never recorded anything but now I need to, how do I do this? We recommend using the software used for our Replay lecture capture service called Panopto. Join our free, Panopto for beginners or Panopto tips and tricks webinars for practical advice. For teaching purposes, recording is also available in Teams.

If you can't find the answer to your question, please do contact the Service Desk for advice.
