We are pleased to announce that we are launching a pilot of a GitHub Enterprise, aimed at Oxford researchers and their research-related code, made possible with funding from the Research Portfolio.
Code and modern research
Clearly code plays a vital role in much of modern research, and Git (and GitHub in particular) is used throughout the University. We also understand that training for researchers in the maintenance and versioning of code varies significantly across the University, as does confidence in sharing and licensing code.
To improve this, the GitHub Enterprise pilot will attempt to onboard a range of teams (GitHub Organizations) that are either currently using GitHub to work collaboratively, or who are considering moving from other solutions for collaborative coding in research (tools such as Gitlab, Bitbucket, etc.).
As part of the pilot, we hope to understand how support and training would be most effective across the research community, and to assess the utility of GitHub Enterprise features in supporting research activities. We will be seeking feedback from teams involved on these aspects, and their experience of working within the enterprise.
Get involved in the GitHub Enterprise pilot
If you, or researchers you support, would like to take advantage of this pilot please complete the expression of interest form and we will be in touch.
If you have other needs relating to GitHub, or similar resources for management of code that you feel don't relate directly to research, please contact researchsupport@it.ox.ac.uk for a chat.
