Digital innovation and digital zen: Mindfulness in the metaverse

The Digital Innovation team in IT Services at Oxford University is dedicated to identifying and evaluating emerging technologies to enhance research, teaching, learning, and business processes across the University. Our team acts as a catalyst for digital transformation, supporting staff in generating new ideas and embracing innovative opportunities. 

Introducing the new Immersive Lab and lending service 

We are excited to announce the launch of our new Immersive Lab located at 13 Banbury Road. This lab offers hands-on demonstrations and experimentation with immersive technology, including a range of virtual reality (VR) equipment. The Immersive Lab is designed to encourage innovation and collaboration among staff, providing a flexible space to encourage collaborative projects. 

In addition to the lab, we have introduced an equipment catalogue and lending service so staff can borrow virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) equipment. Our catalogue includes a variety of devices to support your immersive projects and research. Whether you are a technical user who knows exactly what you need or a non-technical user seeking guidance, our team is here to help you make the most of these resources. Join our immersive wellbeing sessions 

As part of a pilot project to support wellbeing in our department, we are offering immersive wellbeing sessions in our lab.

These sessions feature VR headsets with leading meditation apps such as Headspace, Liminal, and Nature Treks, designed to help you relax.

You can book individual or team sessions in our Cherwell Immersive Room at 13 Banbury Road. For more information or to book a session, please contact the Digital Innovation team.

Drop-in sessions are also available on the following dates:

• 30 October – 1-2pm 
• 13 November – 1-2pm

These sessions are open to all staff. Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
