Help protect Oxford from cyber threats

We're asking you to take action to protect us from cyber threats at Oxford. Cyber-attacks on higher education institutions are on the rise across the globe. We have seen an increase in phishing emails to staff and students.

You can help to protect the University by:

  • installing antivirus software, and computer updates: Installing up-to-date anti-virus software and keeping the operating system and other vulnerable software up to date are important aspects of maintaining device security.
  • being wary of strange emails: Take your time and think before you click. Seems simple enough but it’s easy to feel rushed to respond particularly at work. If something doesn’t seem right go with your gut. Whether it just seems a little off or you weren’t expecting it - sit on it – a genuine organisation won’t mind waiting.
  • and taking action if you’re affected: If something suspicious happens to your computer, immediately disconnect from the network and inform IT support staff. If in doubt, report it.
